I will be honest, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a customer can place an order with a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a price. A big one.
This is just one the very few freelance platforms where buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way that they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and why I decided to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I've been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her building a reputable accounts, and how to go above and beyond with every last purchase. Everything stated is her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In this case, she'd just gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which appeared to be just like any other... or so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the more expensive package).
The client"loved" among the concepts and so we moved to send her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description.
The customer came back requesting a social media kit to decide on the logo, something which is obviously not available as a member of her gig.
Against my advice, my buddy chose to deliver the extra job, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
Following that, the client responded with more demands and some modifications to the social networking click here to find out more files.
At this time, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a reply and reach out to Fiverr support for assistance, the client did eventually go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Selling Fiverr reviews cheap - Bitcoin Forum kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service question, the client paid an extra $10 for the social media kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by yet another threat.
Now, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
However, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr Review – The Hyper and Fun Way of Making Money Online not induce the buyer to take the purchase.
Alright, that is fair enough. (Even though the purchaser accepted it.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to show the job was done in accordance to the gig requirements.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email the client was hoping to extort her to get free work outside the agreed periods, by leaving a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Naturally, it was not about the job, it had been about seeking protection in an abusive client who was blatantly pushing their luck.
Their answer did not give either of us any confidence that Fiverr really knew that, and even at this point we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At the exact same time, she responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function together unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments which was obviously and intentionally left to bully her into supplying function out the agreed provisions .)
A fair petition by anyones standards, right? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the buyer had done up until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all of the rules.
Since she'd asked the customer to modify their opinions, she was no more eligible for any assistance from Fiverr assistance.
It is possible to imagine how we felt studying this.
What the buyer had done and said before her last message has been now being swept under the carpet -- like never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr essentially opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an accounts she'd worked so difficult to accumulate.
And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as all of this was occurring, I did some investigating to find out if some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I discovered a variety of almost identical cases over the Fiverr forum obsolete years ago. (that's right, years.)
This is obviously something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from providing buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on it, or even how well you handled communication in a dispute, when it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it's a very clear cut situation in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one little thing you"did wrong" in accordance with their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it's clear to me that Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet is still eager to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can place all that time and effort in establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, only to be taken down by the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I don't wish to abandon Fiverr. I don't need to be telling people to prevent your own platform.
But after everything that has occurred, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from this kind of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to stop others from falling victim to your one-sided support team.
The next you really do something about this and provide freelancers a means to fight , I'll be happy to update this post.
